Cynric redesign and final

It was decided for good reason to redesign Cynric, as the initial designs didnt quite match the look we were aiming for. This final version had a much more warrior look, with large armour pauldrons and fur hinting at the sort of environment he had come from. As befitting a Saxon king, he has a golden crown and beard ornamentation.

Cynric Initial

Another hero I worked on was Cynric, the Saxon king of Wessex. His initial designs combined a rugged look with that of a warrior king.

Spartacus Hero shot

With the final pose settled upon, it was just a matter of colouring him. It was decided to use more real world reference for the metal colours, which gave him a much better overall appearance.

It was decided for presentation purposes to create a "hero" portrait of each character. For spartacus the first iteration was deemed too static, so it was decided to create a more dynamic pose. Several iteration were created, with the final pose settled upon being a dynamic stance of Spartacus deflecting arrows with a shield

Spartacus weapons and chariot

Concepts showing Spartacus' weapons and chariot. the chariot's colours mimiced those of Spartacus himself in order to retain a sense of uniformity. The weapons are based of those used by gladiators of the time, with the decision made to choose the gladius style over the curved styles.

Spartacus initial concepts

For the creation of the Spartacus character the first step was concepting initial costume designs. These 6 were produced to show a variety of armour and colour choices, that would then be evolved into the final character

Based on these 6 it was decided Spartacus would be helmet-less, with bronze coloured armour, a single pauldron over the right shoulder, greaves and a gauntlet over the right hand with a purple loincloth.
